A study by the Accident Advice Helpline found that 65%
of motorists have suffered anger on the roads, with an astonishing 10%
saying it is happens often.
In the UK the research found that the angriest drivers were in Leeds,
with Bristol having the least angry drivers.
The Signs of Road Rage.
- Competitive driving, speeding up as others overtake.
- Regular driving over the speed limit.
- Intimidate other drivers by tailgating.
- Try to beat the lights either as they are turning to red
or trying to beat those vehicles beside you as they turn to green.
- Flash headlights at slower traffic.
- Sound horn as a sign of frustration, anger or as a rebuke.Shout
or use gestures to other drivers.
If you find yourself doing the above, recognition of the
fact is always the first step. But before you despair, the answer is simple;
avoid driving in the spirit of competition or retaliation, and if another
road user does cause you an inconvenience, make a conscious effort to
think about your actions and the possible consequences.
With 60 million people crammed on our tiny island,
equates to 395 people per square km, it is interesting that the research
highlighted that Britain is the angry driver of Europe, the French were
second, but then the French have a much larger land mass and only 122
people per square km.
